Circles, 2021

When I first moved to Halifax, I wanted to be a musician and a filmmaker. Thirteen years later, I’m proud to present my film “Circles” (which also features some strums on my autoharp!) Thank you so much to curator Becka Barker for including me as part of Animation Festival Halifax ‘s Helen Hill tribute series, as well as guiding me through reflecting on the theme that would ultimately become the core of this film. It’s such a privilege to make art and I’m especially so fortunate for all the support and encouragement I’ve received over the years from my Halifax community.

I came across Helen Hill's work when I first moved to Halifax. I chose to respond to Bohemian Town because it brings me back to that first month, as I was falling in love with the city. Her film is nostalgic, as the paper-cut character sings his love and goodbye to this town. My film builds off of these feelings and themes as it reflects on the life I've since built here. Composed of a variety of imagery and techniques, Circles is an observation of the patterns that have emerged in my day-to-day life
